Buying your first home

Here is the order most first-time buyers work through: whether you are eligible, how much you can borrow, what the stamp duty is, how the purchase runs, and when you can sell later.

  1. Check you are eligible for a resale flat, and which grants you can get. Am I eligible for a resale flat, and which grants can I get?
  2. Work out how much you can borrow. How much can I borrow for a home, and what are the loan limits: TDSR, MSR and LTV?
  3. See how much stamp duty you will pay at the price you have in mind. Stamp duty tool
  4. Find out how much CPF you can use. How much CPF can I use to buy a home, and how much goes back to CPF when I sell?
  5. Follow the steps of a resale purchase, from the OTP to completion. How does an HDB resale flat purchase run, step by step?
  6. Check that your agent is registered. How do I check that my property agent is registered?
  7. Know when you can sell the flat later (the MOP). When can I sell my HDB flat? (the Minimum Occupation Period)
